Brown Opera presents The Magic Flute

Open House at Historic New England Properties
Enjoy free admission at 35 Historic New England properties, including the four in Rhode Island:
- Arnold House in Lincoln (11:00 am – 4:00 pm)
- Casey Farm in Saunderstown (9:00 am – 2:00 pm)
- Clemence-Irons House in Johnston (12:00-3:00 pm)
- Watson Farm in Jamestown (1:00-5:00 pm)

Kite Flying at Watson Farm
Bring a kite to Watson Farm and enjoy a day of old-time family fun. Watch a professional kite flyer fly three kites simultaneously. Hike out to scenic fields where you can launch your own kite or just watch others enjoy this old-fashioned pastime. Follow the self-guided tour of the farm trails down to Narragansett Bay and back and learn more about local agriculture. Grab a kite, bring a picnic lunch if you wish, and come enjoy the breathtaking views of Narragansett Bay’s West Passage.
Visit Beavertail Lighthouse Museum
Daily June-August, Weekends in September to Columbus Day
Learn about America’s 3rd oldest lighthouse (established in 1749) at a museum designed for all ages! Hear historical stories, see artifacts and learn about Rhode Island Lighthouses and local shipwrecks. Visit the adjacent RIDEM aquarium — free admission! Enjoy a seaside vista of rocks, waves and historical grounds unequaled in Southern New England. The museum is located at the south end of Beavertail State Park in Jamestown.
The Beavertail Lighthouse Tower is open to climb twice each month, June through September. Tower openings on Saturdays, June 18, July 2, July 30, August 27, Sept 10, Sept 24 & Sundays, July 17, August 14, October 9. Suggested donation of $5 per adult climber.
Downtown Sundown Series
June 25, July 9 & 23, August 6 & 20
Bring a lawn chair, a blanket, and maybe even a picnic dinner and sit on the lawn at the beautiful Roger Williams National Memorial and enjoy FREE concerts by some of the best songwriters RI has to offer. Lots of street parking available. All ages are welcome. Hear In Rhode Island and Roger Williams National Memorial will present five wonderful evenings of music featuring local singer-songwriters as part of the Downtown Sundown Series. Experience an “outdoor coffeehouse.” Event will be held inside if there is bad weather.
Monkey Monkey Music with Meredith Lavande
Hear acclaimed children’s band Monkey Monkey Music with Meredith Lavande in a free concert at Lippitt House Museum. A Parenting magazine “top pick,” Monkey Monkey Music creator Meredith Lavande’s music videos are featured on 100 PBS stations across the county. Children will have plenty of space to dance to the upbeat music while parents enjoy an urban greenspace. Families are invited to bring a blanket and a picnic to the concert, part of the Hunter Music Series which hosts performances for both children and adults at the museum throughout the year. The concert is supported by Media Partner Rhode Island PBS Kids Club. The concert will be held rain or shine with a rain location at the Central Congregational Church at 296 Angell Street. Windmill Wednesdays

Have you always wanted to see the inside of the 1812 Prescott Farm windmill? Now is your chance at this windmill open house! Explore how this amazing machine works and learn about the importance of grist milling on Aquidneck Island. Enjoy a family-friendly evening with johnnycake tasting and hands-on activities for kids. Bring a picnic dinner to enjoy at one of our picnic tables while listening to live music from Rory and Ric.

Watch a Blacksmith at Work
The ring of the anvil and smell of a coal fire bring the experience of a turn-of-the-century blacksmith shop to life. Visitors of all ages are welcome to stop in and watch the blacksmiths at work in this original 1870s shop. As part of your visit, enjoy a stroll through scenic Chase Farm Park where the Blacksmith Shop is located.
Tyler’s TALL Tales Journey Around the World
Join author, Ashley Richer, and illustrator, Ryan Maguire, for the launch of their second children’s book in the Tyler’s TALL Tales series! Tyler and Freckles are back for another adventure! This time, travel with them for a journey around the world. Your children will visit the ice caps in Alaska and touch the sand in Hawaii – to name a few!

Happy 100th Birthday to the National Parks!
On Thursday, August 25, 2016 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., join the staff and volunteers of the Roger Williams National Memorial to celebrate the National Park Service’s 100th birthday!
Meet park staff and volunteers at the outdoor visitor center, stroll the beautiful grounds, join rangers for storytime at 10:30 a.m., explore new outdoor exhibit panels, meet Roger Williams—and try to stump him with your questions from 12 to 2 p.m.!
Fun fact: The Roger Williams National Memorial is the 20th smallest National Park in the nation!
Celebrate with a picnic, bring lawn chairs and stay for the afternoon!
- Meet the Staff and Volunteers at the Outdoor Visitor Center from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Ranger Story Time from 10:30 to 11 a.m.
- “Ask Roger Williams” from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.
