Children’s Holiday Story Time at Blithewold Mansion
Tuesdays, December 5, 12 & 19
Each Tuesday of December during Christmas at Blithewold, join us for a traditional holiday story time to celebrate the season! This year, children’s librarians from Rogers Free Library will present classic holiday stories that have been told during Christmas throughout the years. Drop in for one story time or come to all three! After the story, join us for a cookie and a 1920s-inspired children’s craft. Included with regular admission: $15 Adults, $6 Youth 6-17, $32 Family (2 adults, 2 youths). Bring a new or gently used book to donate to charity and Mansion admission is free to non-members. This program is best suited to children 4 years old and up, but all are welcome.
Meet Santa at Linden Place
Linden Place welcomes families to the mansion on Saturday, December 9th for a special appearance by Santa Claus. Write a Christmas List to deliver personally to Santa. Take pictures with Santa and participate in our Instagram scavenger hunt contest. Enjoy a snack while you tour the mansion’s festive holiday decorations in every room. Bring an unwrapped toy to put underneath Linden Place’s Christmas tree to be donated to Toys for Tots. Admire the towering Christmas tree framed by a four-story spiral staircase and elegant decorations on every mantle and in every nook and cranny.
Admission is $10 Adults, $8 Seniors/Students & Free for children under 12.
An Old-Fashioned Christmas by Candlelight
Enjoy candlelight ambience with seasonal music played on the harp. Explore the house on a self-guided tour. Hearthside is known for its beautiful holiday decorations. Each room is elaborately decorated with Victorian ornamentation of lace and gold, festive garlands, and countless poinsettias. The festive atmosphere is enhanced with live seasonal music and caroling, homemade cookies and hot cider, and a gift shop stocked with holiday gifts.
$10 Adults, $5 Youth 10+, Free for Children under 10
Holiday Evenings at The Breakers
Saturdays, December 9, 23 & 30
Don’t miss Holiday Evenings at the Newport Mansions for an extra special and unique experience. Enjoy live holiday music and light refreshments as you stroll through softly lit rooms, taking in the ambience of a Gilded Age holiday.

December 9: Greenwich Bay Brass – smaller ensemble of British brass with vocal accompaniment
December 23: Larry Brown Swinglane Orchestra – 20 piece orchestra with two vocal performers
December 30: New Providence Big Band – 20 piece big band featuring vocalist Katie Kleyla
Tickets are $35 Adults & $10 Youth. Please note: Advance tickets for Holiday Evenings are available online until 5 p.m. on the previous day, unless they sell out earlier. On the day of the event, if tickets are still available, they may be purchased in person at the Preservation Society’s office at 424 Bellevue Avenue, or at The Breakers. Christmas at Lippitt House
The holiday season is filled with fun traditions–many of which originated in the Victorian era. Come join the festivities at Lippitt House’s Holiday celebration! Explore Victorian Christmas traditions and make decorations for your own tree out of paper and aluminum. Create candy-filled Christmas crackers to delight your guests. Relax in a cozy nook while you read a book full of Victorian Christmas tales. Enjoy a classic holiday treat of milk and cookies. During the celebration, you can also take a holiday-themed tour of Lippitt House Museum.
$10 Adults, $5 Students, Free Children 12 and under, Free Active Military Personnel
Holiday Traditions Open House
Come celebrate the cradle of religious liberty in America! Experience different holiday traditions when 9 historic houses of worship open their doors from 11:00 am – 2:00 pm. Participating houses of worship include: Channing Unitarian, Emanuel Episcopal, First Presbyterian, Mount Zion AME, Newport Congregational, St. Mary’s Catholic, St. Joseph’s Catholic and Touro Synagogue. Enjoy an authentic view inside a Newport mansion in winter. Heiress Doris Duke spent Christmas in sunny Hawaii far away from Rough Point, her Newport estate. Experience the quiet house, see the decorated staff wing, and hear about Miss Duke’s tropical holiday. Learn how Rough Point’s winter caretaking traditions have remained the same for the past half century. Tour the first floor and enjoy refreshments in the staff dining room, not normally open to the public. Tours offered every 1/2 hour.
