Visit the Museum of Natural History & Planetarium

Visit the museum and explore the exhibit “Icy Worlds & the Discoveries of DAWN and New Horizons” which reveals discoveries from visits by NASA spacecraft to the dwarf planets Ceres and Pluto. Learn how ice has shaped their surface and their geology. Other exhibits include Africa, Circle of the Sea, Natural Selections, and Seismic Shifts. Enjoy a planetarium show (approx 35 minutes) on Saturdays and Sundays at 2:00! Last admission to the museum is at 3:30 pm.

Admission is $2 (Free for children under 4).  First Saturday of the Month is FREE for Providence Residents. Planetarium/Museum Admission is $3 (no children under 4 admitted)

Tour the Fort

Become a Tunnel Rat! Explore the underground listening tunnels on a guided tour of the fort and receive an official Tunnel Rat sticker to prove you have been there. You’ll also enjoy gorgeous views of the bay from the top of the Fort walls as you learn about local military history. Tours are primarily outdoors, so please dress accordingly.

Admission is $12 for Adults, $10 for Seniors/Active Military/AAA and $6 for Youth (6-17). Children under 6 are free. Family package for 2 adults and up to 4 youth is $30.

Discover art, history, and nature at the Gilbert Stuart Birthplace and Museum! Set in the woods on a beautiful millpond, the Museum has an operating gristmill, fish ladder, and colonial herb garden. Take a stroll on the nature trails after checking out art exhibits in the Welcome Center and Gallery. Admission includes entry to the gallery exhibit, access to museum grounds and trails, and a guided tour of the Birthplace and Gristmill. Guided tours last 45–60 minutes and include visits to the Hammond Gristmill and the Birthplace.

Admission is $10 for Adults and $6 for Children (6 – 12).

Explore the 1810 mansion with this self-guided tour that is perfect for both children and adults! Find dozens of items, hidden and in plain sight, while you learn about the house and family history. Spot a 200-year old coach, search out George Washington and find out the meaning behind the phrase “sleep tight and don’t let the bedbugs bite!”

Admission is $8 for Adults, $6 for Seniors/Students, $5 for Children 6-12 and Free for Children under 6. The mansion opens at 12:00 pm on Sundays.

Learn about America’s 3rd oldest lighthouse (established in 1749) at a museum designed for all ages! Hear historical stories, see artifacts and learn about Rhode Island Lighthouses and local shipwrecks. Visit the adjacent RIDEM aquarium — free admission! Enjoy a seaside vista of rocks, waves and historical grounds unequaled in Southern New England. The museum is located at the south end of Beavertail State Park in Jamestown.

The Beavertail Lighthouse Tower is open to climb twice each month, June through September. Tower openings on Saturdays, June 18, July 2, July 30, August 27, Sept 10, Sept 24 & Sundays, July 17, August 14, October 9. Suggested donation of $5 per adult climber.

On the Second Saturday of each month, the Museum of Work & Culture offers a special program for children with special needs. This includes adjusted sound and lighting elements, social stories and first/then boards, as well as trained staff and volunteers who can provide supplementary tools. Tours are offered to visiting families who have children with special needs.

Admission: $8 Adults, $6 Students/Seniors, Free for children under 10 free with adult admission

Climb Beavertail Light Tower

Visit the lighthouse on the first day of the season! Enjoy an opportunity to climb the lighthouse tower and admire panoramic views of Narragansett Bay. The Tower is open to climb twice each month from June through October. Begin your visit with a tour of the museum and learn about the 3rd oldest lighthouse in North America. Tower openings are weather dependent; if uncertain, call (401) 423-3270. Suggested donation of $5 per adult.

Some considerations for climbing the tower:
Climbers must be at least 4 ft tall.
Climbers are urged to wear footwear other than flip flops.
Neither small children nor pets may be carried.
Climbers must be in line by 3:30 pm to climb tower before closing.

History and Herb Hike

Walk through the beautiful, rolling trails of Lincoln and learn about its history-filled landscape from the seventeenth century to today. Herbalist Maureen Lapre identifies various herbs and explains their benefits in both colonial times and today. Tours begin at Arnold House and travel through Gateway Park to Chase Farm Park and back again. Includes admission to Arnold House.
